For a while now, I’ve been trying to come up with a good way to give books the Spice Rating. It just clicked while watching one of my favorite Booktubers, The Bookish Knitter. I have to say the way she is now doing her ratings just makes a lot of sense.
The thing about ratings is that each person sees and reads stuff differently. What one person says is a 5-star book might be a 3-star to someone else. And because of that no rating system is correct because we are all different. That is not a bad thing at all because we all should have different views on things.
What really made this new Spice Rating click was that there were things that needed to happen to reach a certain level. So, with the permission of The Bookish Knitter, I can use this system when rating future books. This rating will only account for new reviews, not for past reviews.

🚫 – No spice in the book
🧁 – Sweet wholesome romance
🌶️ – Fade to black
🌶️🌶️ – Few brief steamy scenes; 1-2 explicit scenes
🌶️🌶️🌶️ – 3+ explicit scenes
🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ – 5+ explicit scenes
❤️🔥 – Over half the novel has explicit scenes
