Sweet Escape by Willa Kay is book one in the Whispering Oaks Ranch Series. It is also my first time reading anything Willa Kay has written. I have to say that I was not disappointed in this book. In fact, I loved it so much from start to finish. This book does deal with the grief of losing a spouse, so if that is something that you can’t handle, please do not read this book, and make sure to read all trigger warnings when it comes to this book.
The thing I loved about Sweet Escape and Willa was able to write so well was the way the Wilder was after his wife passed away. Not only did she need to write about how that affected him, but also his family members and his wife. I have to say, seeing them all try and help him know he was not to blame and that she would want him to move on was great. Most of the time, I feel like the spouse who dies family doesn’t like to see the living spouse move on. But in this case, they knew that it was best for him and his daughter.
Then we have Olivia, who has really been hit with some stuff to make her have some self-esteem issues. I like how Wilder right away wants to lift her and make her feel better. And she does the same for him. I think that they seemed to be able to talk things through and want to be there for each other because they are both in their 30s. Wilder is 38, and she is 30. So they are both grown-ups and have handled life with more maturity.
Even tho I loved this book, I will say I felt like the ending was a bit rushed, but at the same time, it also felt really perfect. I think anyone looking for a spicy romance will want to read this book and will enjoy it from start to finish. I am giving this book five stars, and I really can’t wait to read the next book in this series. The spice level is a bit spicy as Sweet Escape is getting four chili peppers.

I would like to thank Willa Kay for the ARC Copy of this book. Getting the ARC Copy did not influence my thoughts on the book as they are all my own.
